Abstract

666,014. Two-part couplings. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES, Ltd. July 7, 1950 [July 8, 1949; May 12, 1950], Nos. 18150/49 and 11933/50. Class 38 (i). In electrical apparatus comprising a conductor supported in a metal casing by insulating material injected under pressure while molten and allowed to set, a spew-hole is provided in the casing having an outer part of greater crosssectional area than an inner part so that shrinkage of the material within the casing causes the material in the spew-hole to be drawn towards the wall thereof to form a seal. Fig. 1 shows one part of a cable coupling device in which plug-pins 4 and/or sockets and the wires 3 connected thereto are supported in a casing 6 by insulating material 7. The spewhole 8 is formed with a step 11 against which is drawn the head 13 of insulating material in the outer part 9 of the hole. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which a rubber gasket 15 is placed between the head 13 and the step to counteract any subsequent stretching of the insulating material tending to weaken the seal. In a further embodiment, the spew-hole has the shape of a truncated cone with its wider end adjacent the outside of the casing.
