Abstract

628,696. Two-part couplings. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., FAIRLEY DELAMARE, A. C., and JARVIS, F. L. Sept. 16, 1947, No. 25279. [Class 38 (i)] A connector for coaxial cables comprises identical halves each formed of an outer tube 1 closely surrounding an inner tube 2 in which is insulatedly mounted a strip centre conductor 3, the tubes being cut away for part of their lengths to provide mating portions when the halves are plugged together. The tube 1 is screwed into a clamping ring 22 and abuts a flange 6 on the tube 2, which flange is slotted to receive projections on the screwed end 8 of tube 1 to prevent the tubes rotating in one another. The centre conductor 3 is provided with a kink 7 and has one end turned over into an insulator 5 to prevent it and the tube shorting ; the kink increasing the contact pressure between the halves when they are plugged together. In a modification, Fig. 6, the centre conductor 17 is flat and is provided with spring fingers 18 to enhance its contact pressure. A waisted spring 19 is secured on the tube 2 to increase the contact pressure between the mating outer conductors. A mounting flange may also be secured to one connector half, thereby converting it into a jack, while the other remains a plug (Figs. 8A, 8B, not shown).
