Abstract

621,459. Two-part couplings. BUTLER, T. A., and PYE, Ltd. Feb. 28, 1947, No. 5785. [Class 38 (i)] A pre-moulded, plug-and-socket connector adapted for attachment to small-diameter coaxial cables, comprises outer metal shell contacts 5, 5a, Figs. 4 and 2 respectively, within which central contacts 6 carrying at their outer ends either a resilient socket 11 or a pin 11a, are secured by insulating material 8 moulded inside the shells and round an intermediate portion of the outside thereof, a space 22 being left between the pin 11a and the shell 5a for insertion therein of the shell 5. Apertures 9 are provided in the shells to allow the insulating material to flow to the inside thereof, and screws 15 pass through one of said apertures in each of the shells and into the contacts 6 for securing the inner conductor 1 of a coaxial cable in the bores 14 thereof. The rear end of each shell has a projection 7 which is forced between the dielectric 3 and outer conductor 2 of the cable, a split clamping sleeve 16 being fitted over the outer sheath 4 of the cable to clamp it and the conductor 2 to the shell.
