Abstract

960,400. Two-part couplings. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Oct. 5, 1960 [Sept. 4, 1959], No. 30218/59. Heading H2E. In a plug and socket connector wherein the contacts 1 are secured with a watertight fit in the bores 2 of the breach of the bores 2 of the body 3 of rubber-like material terminates, at the end accommodating a conductor wire 12, in a portion 11 tapering to a diameter substantially smaller than the diameter of the end portion 13 of the contact 1. The elastomer body 3 is cemented into a metal bush 4 while the body is radially expanded in the manner described in Specification 953,869). Socket contact 1 has a cylindrical shaft portion 8 confined between two annular shoulders 9 and engaging with a force fit the bore of the diaphragm portion 10 of the body to ensure a watertight seal. The seal is improved by the tapering (described above) of the bores 2. Cap-nut member 5 co-operates with an external screw thread 25 of a projecting portion of the bush on a similarly constructed plug connector shown in Fig. 2, and is rotatable between an integral shoulder flange 6 and a circlip 7. A projecting lip 34 surrounds each pin 21 and engages in lead-in portion 14 of the bore 2 to isolate the individual connectors of the coupling from each other. A lip 35 on elastomer body 23 co-operates with the flat front face of body 3 to form a seal encircling all the plug and socket contacts. Specification 851,354 also is referred to.
