Abstract

1,205,573. Two-part couplings. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 27 March, 1968 [3 May, 1967], No. 20557/67. Heading H2E. A housing 15, for a connector adapted to mate with a socket contact 12 on the distributer cap of an I.C. engine, is moulded in resilient waterproof insulating material such as rubber or P.V.C., and comprises two portions 16, 17, each having an internal bore, the wall thickness of portion 17 increasing to a maximum at the open end of the portion to retain therearound a clamping ring 21 of rigid plastics material and formed with an internal helical rib 22, so that in use, axial movement of ring 21 towards the open end of portion 17 compresses portion 17 firmly around an insulating sleeve 11 of the distributer cap. In a modifiication (Fig. 2, not shown), the wall thickness of portion 17 is uniform, and the sleeve 11 tapers towards its mating end, so that it imparts a conical contour to portion 17 when mated therewith. Portions 16, 17 comprise internal circumferential grooves 18, 19 to prevent ingress of moisture, as disclosed and claimed in Specification 1,205,433.
