Abstract
381,020. Water-tube steam boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., Farringdon Street, London.-(Deutsche Babcock und Wilcox Dampfkessel-Werke-Akt.-Ges. ; Oberhausen, Rhineland, Germany.) Dec. 14, 1931, No. 34660. [Class 123 (ii).] In boilers in which the combustion chamber walls are lined with groups of water-tubes, the tube groups are disposed one behind the other in the direction of flow of the water, separated steam being led off through the common header of two adjacent groups to the boiler drum and the water flowing to the next group. In the form shown the tubes are arranged round a furnace, square in cross section, with the headers arranged at the four corners. The tube groups between successive headers 1, 2 .. embrace the lower part of the furnace and further groups 6, 7, .. are continued round the walls until the upper part is reached, the lower headers being bent to leave room for the headers of the groups above. A separate downcomer 1<1>, 2<1>, .. connects each header with the drum which receives steam from the headers through discharge pipes 1<11>, 211... Combustion chambers fired by burners are preferably of polygonal form in plan and the drum may be spherical. Multistoried embodiments may comprise separate groups independently connected to the drum. Inserts in the tubes or headers may be provided to facilitate separation of the steam and water. Convection-heated surfaces, superheaters, feedwater heaters or air preheaters may be included in the plant.
