Abstract
378,991. Electric lamp holders and reflectors. CLEBURNE, C. L., Manor Gardens, Chelsea, London. May 28, 1931, No. 15668. [Classes 39 (ii), 75 (ii), and 75 (iii).] An electric lamp holder or socket for a plug coupling comprises an elastic insulating and shock-absorbing socket 1, Fig. 2, of indiarubber for frictionally gripping either the cap of an electric lamp 3a or an electric plug, together with clamping-means for tightening the socket upon the cap or plug. As shown in Fig. 1, the clamping-means comprises a splitring 11. The lamp cap is provided with the usual bayonet pins 3 which engage within apertures 2 in the wall of the socket, the latter being sprung over the cap to effect the engagement. A reflector 7a mav be attached to the socket by resilient split-ring sections at its lower end, or the split sections may be pressed upon the socket by a separate clamping-ring 11. The lamp contacts 4 may consist of helical springs let into recesses 5 in the socket or, as shown in Fig. 6, terminal contacts 15 are carried by an insulator 17 adapted to be pressed into the socket and held therein by upstanding limbs 18, 19 thereon engaging the wall 10 of the socket, apertures 20, 21 being provided in the limbs 18, 19 to receive the lamp pins 3. Resilient lamp contacts may be provided by metal discs mounted upon indiarubber washers. The cage or reflector 7a may be provided with transparent or translucent plain or coloured windows, and a coloured glass piece 13 may be mounted in the upper end to enable the device to be used as a vehicle tail lamp. The bottom of the socket may be integral with or attached to a base 14 shaped to form a suction attaching-device.
