[Class 69 (ii).] In a liquid meter, especially for fuel-dispensing plants, the liquid is measured by cylinder in which a piston moves freely, the reversing of the piston being effected by a reversing device which is controlled by the overpressure occurring in the liquid duct leading to the respective sections of the measuring cylinder as soon as during operation the piston strikes an abutment in the cylinder. The piston B moves in a cylinder A provided with abutments at each end and connected by ducts 1, 2 with a reversing device comprising a valve C rotatable about a vertical axis. The valve C is moved intermittently during the operation of the measuring piston in a single direction by a controlling device D similar to that described in Specification 349,219 but turned upside down, and the reversing operation is operated by the pressure in the discharge duct 5. The floating regulator in Specification 349,219 is also replaced by a regulator E comprising a twin piston 12, 13 which is normally forced towards the left by a spring 14, the cylinder in which the piston moves communicating with the duct 5. The other side of the piston is connected by a pipe 16 to the supply duct 4 ; the other side is connected by a pipe 17 to the device D, but only when the orifices 15 in the end of that pipe are uncovered by the movement to the right of the piston 12, 13. When the piston B, in its movement, strikes an abutment in the cylinder A, the overpressure in the supply duct 4 is transmitted through the pipe 16 to the piston 12, 13 which is then moved towards the right, compressing the spring 14. The orifices 15 are thus uncovered and liquid flows by the pipe 17 into the device D which then effects the reversing operation as described in Specification 349,219. The regulator E is also controlled by the meter F, the shaft of which is provided with a disc 18 provided with a'cam 21 which moves up a spring-controlled rod 19 into the space between the twin pistons 12, 13 and prevents the movement of the latter. Leakage holes 43, 44 which connect with annular recesses 41, 42 are provided in the cylinder of the member E. The supply discharge and return ducts 4, 5, 9 are all filed up to the level G. The duct 4 discharges into the chamber 23 upon which a float chamber 24 is arranged, the float 25 allowing the escape of air through the pipe 26 and the duct 10. The upper edge 28 of a socket 27 fitted into the chamber 23 is on the same level as the upper edge 29 of a socket leading to the duct 5. Below the edge 28 the chamber 23 is connected by a duct 30 with the overflow pipe 9 and the duct 10.
