Fixed-chamber apparatus, valve systems for varying quantity measured in and counting and registering apparatus for.-Relates to apparatus in which liquid is pumped into a measuring chamber having a vertically adjustable overflow pipe, and comprises the provision of a slide for controlling the admission and dipscharge of the liquid, such valve being combined with an adjustable lever and co-operating linkage for operating the valve. The cylindrical glass chamber 2, Fig. 1, is clamped between end plates 4, 5 by belts 6. Liquid from the reservoir is supplied by a pipe 15 through a filter 25 and hand pump 16 to a distributing valve secured to the plate 4. The overflow pipe 13 has attached to it a handle 35 by means of which it is raised and lowered, a slight turn of the handle bringing it into engagement with a selected one of several stops on a rod 36. The distributing valve is shown in Fig. 2 and comprises a slide valve 20 which may be adjusted to any one of three positions by a handle 30 and crank and link 33. A pointer on the handle moves over an indicating disc 34, showing whether the valve is in the filling, shut-off, or discharge positions. The stuffing-box 14, Fig. 4, for the sliding pipe 13 is provided with several pairs of packing segments 41 of triangular section, each pair separated by leather fittings 42. The cover 43 for this stuffing box forms a second stuffing box closed by a gland. An elbow pipe 8 from the top of the measuring chamber leads into the vent pipe 9 from the reservoir. The liquid is discharged through a flexible pipe 28. A pneumatic device 45 of known type indicates the height of liquid in the supply reservoir, and a device 50 contains a roll of numbered and printed tickets each representing a determined quantity of liquid, and serves as a bill and receipt.
