Abstract

373,299. Pistons. TRESEDER, W. L. TRESEDER, F. M., Ashdene, Creigiau. near Cardiff, and HENRY, T. L., 22, Vivian Road, Sketty, Swansea,. March 2, 1931, No. 6464. [Class 122 (i).] A piston is provided with two partitions c joining the walls and the crown and disposed at right-angles to the gudgeon-pin and crown. The partitions are spaced to receive the small end of the connecting-rod and are drilled to receive the pin. In the construction shown in the Figure, no gudgeon-pin bosses are provided. The gudgeon-pin hole is drilled through the wall a and partitions c. Steps e, f are provided on the inside of the piston. Below the step f the skirt is internally machined, and the mouth is bevelled at g. Packing-ring grooves are provided at'h, and a scraper-ring groove at j in the skirt. Oil collecting holes k are drilled through the wall, and a narrow groove n is provided to hold and distribute the oil. Holes m are provided to give access to the pin. In a modification, gudgeon-pin bosses are provided and connect the partitions with the skirt. The head is dished and strengthened by ribs ; two scraper rings are provided. The absence of bosses in the construction shown permits variation of the gudgeon-pin position. The partitions facilitate cooling.
