Abstract

A compressed-acetylene generator having a sliding tray or drawer b for the carbide is provided, outside the compressed-acetylene container a and the counter-pressure chamber c, with a regulating container f of relatively small cross section, the container f being connected by a pipe d to the water space of the container a, and by a pipe e of smaller diameter to the gas space of the container a. Water is supplied to the carbide through a one-way valve j and a pipe i, and the gas passes through a pipe g and one-way valve h into the container f, and thence through a float valve s and purifier P to the outlet pipe l. In operation, closure of the pipe l causes depression of the water in the container f and stops the supply of water to the carbide, the water in the container f being rapidly depressed owing to the relatively small diameter of the pipe e. The float valve s prevents the suction of water into the purifier <PICT:0368074/IV/1> <PICT:0368074/IV/2> P, in case of exhaustion of the gas supply. Between the purifier P and the outlet pipe l a further safety device is provided comprising a container n connected by a pipe o to a water seal p, the latter having a non-return valve q at the bottom and a rupturable diaphragm r at the top. The pipe m, through which the gas passes from the purifier P, carries a float valve t adapted to close the pipe if water from the seal p is forced back into the container n. The counterpressure chamber c may be separate from the container a, and both the containers a and c may have horizontal longitudinal axes.
