Abstract

<PICT:0451170/III/1> In oxygen - generating apparatus, the chemical mixture is moulded by pressure in the form of a rod A, provided with a recess for an igniter A<1>. The rod is inserted in a container B and is firmly housed and protected against shock by means of a heat-insulating and filtering sheath C, of kieselguhr, magnesia, lime, asbestos or sea sand, which completely fills the space between the rod and the container. The liberated gases are filtered and cooled by passage through the sheath C, and are then passed through a shallow filtering layer D in the neck F of the container, thence to outlet E. The generation of oxygen is initiated by a striking pin F which acts on a primer G.
