[Class 81 (ii).] In respiratory appliances employed in submarine life-saving and comprising a breathing bag a containing a canister b, and a mouth piece f, a valve h is provided, on the mouthpiece or on the bag, which opens inwardly only on the application of comparatively high pressure. The valve as shown is spring- pressed and is intended to prevent crushing of the canister under the air pressure necessary to per. mit release of the wearer from the submerged vessel. The canister b may contain sodium peroxide, or potash in which case an oxygen bottle c with an external control knob m is provided in the bag. A fastening d is provided on the lower edge of the bag and a cock g on the mouthpiece f.
