Abstract
555,668. Respiratory appliance. PRATT, J. D., and SADD, J. A. Nov. 1, 1941, No. 14101. [Class 81 (ii)] In a gas mask or respirator having a rubber or like flexible face-piece adapted to be secured upon the head of the wearer and having a purifying or absorbing canister or container secured to and projecting from the face-piece, the canister or container is attached to one side of the face piece so as not to interfere with any essential operations of the wearer. As shown one expiratory valve is seated at the front of the face-piece a and may be protected by perforated plates e and the axis of the canister q is arranged approximately coincident with the axis of the normal to and fro movements of the head of the wearer. The canister may be fitted with a cone h having an aperture and corks may be fitted into this aperture and one within the face-piece above the inlet valve to render the canister watertight. The expiratory valve may be flexible with one or more annular ribs on one or both faces and the ribs may be of rectangular form with the larger dimention at right angles to the valve.
