992,428. Respiratory appliances. O. H. DRAGER, [trading as DRAGERWERK, HEINR. & BERNH. DRAGER]. April 30, 1962, [May 5, 1961], No. 16520/62. Heading A5T. In a closed circuit breathing apparatus the inhalation valve and a diaphragm-actuated oxygen supply valve are located in a common valve housing together with the diaphragm and the whole assembly is arranged externally of a breathing bag. The housing A is closed by a flexible diaphragm 15 to provide a chamber 9 and with its outer surface exposed to the ambient medium, while its inner surface bears on a rod 16 for controlling an oxygen supply valve 17. A port 8, in the housing A, communicates with the breathing bag and an inhalation valve 10 leads to a flexible hose 11 connected to the mouthpiece. For convenience, the exhalation valve 13 is also mounted on the housing but merely leads to a connection 14 to return exhaled air to a carbon dioxide absorber. A bleed orifice 20, by-passing the valve 17, is designed to pass sufficient oxygen for normal requirements but any greater demand results in the diaphragm 15 being drawn inwards with consequent opening of the supply valve 17.
