Abstract

352,392. Respiratory appliances for divers &c. BELLONI, A., Portovenere, Italy. March 28, 1930, No. 10015. Convention date, July 16, 1929. [Class 81 (ii).] A helmet for divers or members of the crews of submarines consists of a flexible watertight cowl with a water seal round the breast and back at the level of the armpits, air being supplied from bottles containing compressed air; means are fitted for removing exhaled gases and :for varying the buoyancy of the helmet. Fig. 1 shows a helmet made watertight by straps 3, and enclosed in a strengthening-net; water enters freely at the lower edge 17, and is kept at a proper level by the air in the helmet. A belt 5 has a pocket 4, into which the helmet may be packed, and a similar pocket 9 containing one or more flasks of compressed air, which passes through a pipe 12 to an outlet 16, Fig. 3, above a network cap 15. Exhaled air passes away by a pipe 8, Fig. 1. In a modification, the helmet is fitted with a mouthpiece through which air is breathed; the respired air passes away through a pipe opening into the water say at a level of the armpits.
