A toy deep sea diver comprises a simulated human figure with a removable suit including a neckband 32 through which the head projects, a breast plate assembly, and a helmet. The breast plate assembly includes an inner plate 36 that is below the suit 26, with a threaded neck 42 projecting through the neck band, and an outer plate 38 over the suit. The helmet 46 has a threaded lower portion 50 that engages the threaded neck portion of the inner breast plate, securing the helmet to the breast plate assembly. The inner plate may include a body portion that has a saddle-like configuration conforming to the shoulders of the figure, and the outer plate may have a similarly shaped body portion, to fit over the inner plate. The helmet may have at least one air inlet, 56, to which a hose 58 may be connected for directing air blown by the user under pressure from mouthpiece 60 into the helmet, and perforations 64 through which the air escapes, producing a bubbling when the toy is submerged in water. A simulated diving harness, 66, may include a belt 68, to which weights 70 are attached, and shoulder straps 76 and 78 and a center strap 90 to hold the belt in place. The figure may also have gloves 96 and boots 100, with shoes 98 held to the boots by heel portion 106 and front portion 102. The joint weight of the belt weights and the shoes may be enough to overcome the natural buoyancy of the figure, so that it slowly submerges in water, but not enough to retain the figure submerged when air is blow into the helmet, when the figure rises slowly to the surface of the water.
