Abstract

129,965. Del Re, D. July 13, 1918, [Convention date]. Body attachments, inflatable and buoyant; head coverings.-A buoyant life-saving garment consists of a vest-like body garment 1, to which is attached on each side a receptacle 6 containing an air-tight bag 11, Fig. 5, adapted to be inflated through the tube 9 and valve 10 by the wearer. The bag 11 is fixed to the tube 9,which passes through a screw plug 8 adapted to screw into a screwed ring 7 forming the mouth of the receptacle 6. The two sides of the garment are connected at the back by electric straps 3, and the front is formed with button-holes 5 and provided with spaced rows of buttons 4, to adapt it for use by persons of different size. The lower rear ends of the receptacles 6 are connected by an elastic strap 12, and their lower front ends are provided with elastic straps 13, 14, which are made sufficiently long to be passed, say, twice round the body and are provided at their free ends with the members of a snap-hook fastening 15. Shoulder straps 17, which may also be of elastic material, are attached to the rear upper ends of the receptacles 6, and are of sufficient length to be crossed under one of the straps 3, and to be secured by their end rings 18 to snaphooks 19 fixed to the garment. The garment is also provided with one or more pockets 20, each adapted to contain a waterproof bag fitted with a removable cap or closure and serving to contain valuables. The mouth of the pocket is provided with an elastic band, and the cap or closure of the bag is provided with a chain 26 adapted to be passed through a ring 23 fixed to the garment. For use more particularly in salt water, to prevent the wearer of the garment from swallowing any water when immersed, the helmet or head covering 28 is employed. This helmet has an expansible neckband 29, glazed eye-apertures 30. a snout 31 containing absorbent material, such as sponge, and an air-pipe 33 attached to the snout.
