Abstract

104,983. Swinbourne, H., and Welford, G. H. June 17, 1916. Body attachments, inflatable. - A lifesaving garment 1, of the type adapted to enclose the whole fully-dressed body except the head, and having an inflatable waist-belt 2, has the neck opening extended along the shoulders and, if desired, some distance along the arms, to enable the garment to be readily donned. The opening is closed on either side of the neck by shoulder flaps 4, a neck strap 13 being also provided. To enable the wearer to be located when in the water, one of the flaps 4 is provided with a flash lamp 5, which is inserted in a closed pocket inside the flap and protected on the outside by waterproof material having a celluloid face inset. The other flap 4 may have a pocket 6 for a spirit flask, and a similar pocket for food may be provided at the back, just below the neck. The waist-belt 2, which is inflated through the valved tube 3, is protected by waterproof material 8 secured to the garment by hooks and clasps 7 and shafts 11.
