Abstract

189,939. McGlade, J. P. Oct. 17, 1921. Body attachments, inflatable; buoys.-A buoyant aparatus, completely enclosing the wearer, comprises two parts 1, 2, Fig. 1, hinged together closer to the arm-pits than shown in the Figure, which is not to scale, and fastened by a spring 11. The parts 1, 2 are preferably of rubbered material and are secured to wooden rings 9<1>, 8 respectively, a rubber ring 10 between the wooden rings making a watertight joint. The ring 9<1> carries straps 15 embracing a life-belt 14 which is adapted to be inflated by a hand or foot operated pump 35, and flaps 18 held in position by strings 19 to provide stability in rough water. The lower ends of the straps 15 are connected to a further wooden ring 9 which is also connected to the part 1, thus holding the life-belt in position. Cane loops 13 distend the sides. Straps 6, 7, connected to a strap 27 and the base 23 respectively, are provided with holes co-operating with studs on the rings 8, 9 respectively so as to provide adjustment for length in each part. A window 22 of glass with embedded wire is provided. The wearer breathes through an orifice 32, Fig. 2, communicating with a metal chamber 31 having holes 33 in its bottom. A sign in luminious paint or the like is provided. The various parts are jointed together by stitching or riveting, solution being applied to the joint. The apparatus may be lined for warmth and pockets may be provided for food &c.
