Buoyant garments.-A buoyant garment consists of a jacket 1 having a padding of buoyant material 4a in the front, a smaller padding' 4b at the back near the top, and a padded collar 5 connected therewith. The buoyant material or padding is preferably kapok. The garment is secured by tapes 3, 9, and by a belt 3<1>. When in the water, the wearer's body assumes the position shown in Fig. 4. The collar may stand outwards from the body, or the ends be drawn together by the tapes 9. The latter arrangement renders the garment suitable for aviators as the back of the neck and the lower part of the face are protected
