Abstract
1,274,842. Respiratory masks. WALTER KIDDE CO. Ltd. 13 May, 1969 [13 May, 1968], No. 22698/68. Heading AST. An oxygen breathing mask has a gas inlet and a harness with one or more elastic members and one or more inflatable members, connectable to the gas inlet, which when inflated expand the elastic member or members, and a means for deflating the inflated member or members. The inflatable member or members, 16 and 17 may be formed from elastic material and so constitute at least one of the elastic members. The inflatable members 16 and 17 may comprise convoluted tubing strengthened by parachute silk. The or each inflatable member has an inlet and an outlet opening 24, 25 for gas, the outlet opening being of such dimensions that the inflatable member remains inflatated as gas flows through it. The inlet opening of each inflatable members is connected to the gas inlet through a valve 18 which may be manually or automatically opened or closed. Opening this valve causes the inflatable member or members to expand so that the harness can be placed over the user's head whilst when the valve is closed the inflatable member or members deflate so allowing the elastic member or members to contract and hold and grip the user's head. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,175,080.
