Abstract

686,506. Diving. GALEAZZI, R. May 3, 1951 [May 5, 1950; Sept. 13, 1950], No. 10446/51. Class 68(ii) In a closed diving suit wherein the breathable and the balancing: air are kept separate and the expired air is discharged direct' into the sea, a device 3 is provided in the discharge conduit 2, 7 to allow air to be discharged during expiration of the air but does not allow escape of the air even if downstream of the device there is a pressure lower than that inside the suit. In the form shown in Figs. 2, 2a the device comprises a valve 8 secured over the inner end of the downstream portion 7 of the discharge conduit and having flexible lips 11 carrying small blocks 10 secured to the inside of a flexible casing 9 secured on the end of the portion 2 of the discharge conduit. When the diver is not breathing out and there is a lower pressure in pipe 7 than in the suit around the casing 9, the superior pressure around 9 keeps the valve 8 closed as in Fig. 2 and prevents passage of air from 2 to 7. When the diver breathes out the superior pressure inside the casing 9 expands the same and opens the valve 8 as shown in Fig. 2a.
