Abstract

Liquid raised up to solid; dripfeed apparatus; regulating head of liquid directly.-High pressure acetylene generators wherein a closed air chamber acting as a cushion is associated with the closed water chamber, are arranged so that the generator can be charged with fresh carbide, and the old carbide renewed, without loss of acetylene from the generator or of pressure from the air chamber. As shown, the generator b is arranged within the water chamber a, and the air chamber h is placed either within the water chamber as shown in Fig. 2 or at the side as shown in Fig. 3; and the pipe c through which water is delivered to the carbide is provided with a cock c<1>, and the pipe d through which acetylene is delivered to the stor. age chamber e is fitted with an automatic nunreturn valve d<1>. Gas delivered to the chamber c, depresses the water in this chamber and also that in the subsidiary chamber f; from this latter chamber is taken the supply of water to the generator; surplus gas generated after the supply of water is cut off, passes into the upper part of the water chamber. A one-way valve s is provided to enable this surplus gas to pass to the outlet pipe n, and a float-controller t may be arranged in front of this outlet so as to prevent the escape of water into the gas-delivery system. The safety-valve m, Fig. 3, is connected to the water space of the air chamber and not to the air space. Necessary water may be introduced by means of a pump p.
