Abstract

<PICT:0472970/IV/1> An acetylene generator, of the type wherein the carbide feed is regulated by a buoy which rises or falls with variations in the gas pressure, is characterized by the following features, in combination, viz.: (1) a dish l which is formed at the neck of the carbide hopper and which is filled with water, to indicate leakage; (2) a hollow buoy-stem e having vents f; (3) a spreader j and a trunk g, mounted as shown to establish communication between the buoy chamber a and the sludge chamber h; and (4) a one-way valve q which permits gas to pass from chamber b to chambers a and h when the generator is nearly exhausted. A valve p permits gas to pass to chamber b when required.
