Abstract
219,101. Lee, A. J. F. April 20, 1923. Submarine vessels.-Means for expelling water from the ballast tanks of submarine vessels comprises a chamber, closed at the top and open at the bottom to the sea, is provided at the base of or connected to the ballast tank and a pipe leads from the bottom of the tank into the air space at the top of the chamber. The ballast tank B contains the air chamber C open at F to the sea. A pipe E connects the chamber and tank. To discharge the tank, air is pumped through a pipe D into the chamber C until the level of water therein falls below the level of the open end of the pipe E, and then air is forced into the tank at G whereupon water flows from the tank through the pipe E to the sea. More than 'one pipe E may be provided, and the chamber may be formed integral with and as a recess in the tank.
