Abstract

156,315. Banister, F. M. Oct. 1, 1919. Buoyancy motors; siphons; tidal energy, utilizing.-A float B rises and falls in a caisson &c. A and actuates a pump piston D. Water is supplied from the sea &c. to the caisson by a pipe H, the mouth of which is provided with a valve M actuated by a float P and is protected by a grating R. The caisson is emptied through a siphon pipe J provided with a valve Q which may be actuated by a float. In the case when the liquid level varies between K and L, the upper end of the caisson is closed. When the water in the caisson is at the level shown, the float P closes the valve M. Water is now admitted to the pipe J by the pipe S to displace any air in the siphon and the valve Q opened to allow the siphon to empty the caisson. When the caisson is empty the float P opens the valve M and the caisson is filled again.
