Abstract
11,819. Friedemann, U., and Thompson, T. E. Aug. 16. Siphons. - Irrigators, or bottle-emptying apparatus, of the type in which liquid is drawn from a container by siphonic action which is started by compressed air obtained by immersing the apparatus in the container, are made in separable pieces for the purpose of cleansing. Top and bottom pieces a, b are threaded at c, d to engage a central tube e and are recessed and fitted with packing j to hold the ends of a cylinder i in an air-tight manner. In operation, a rubber tube and nozzle are connected to the enlargement f of the tube e, and the apparatus is immersed in the liquid until the part f is submerged and the nozzle is held below the container. Liquid rises in the central tube to the level outside and also enters the casing through a hole k in the piece b. The air is thus compressed and forced out through a hole l into the tube c, whereby siphonic action is started. In a modification, the parts a, i may be formed as a single piece integral with the central tube.
