25,721. Gjeitvik, H. H. Nov. 10. Net floats and buoys.-A hollow buoy comprising a rigid body 1 is filled with compressed air. A tube 6 extends through the buoy and is provided at the top with an air-tight cap 9 and at the bottom with a valve 10. A screw fitting 12 is provided to take the tube of a compression pump. When the buoy is immersed and the pressure of the water exceeds the internal air pressure, the valve 10 is opened, and water flows into the buoy through openings 7 in the tube 6. In this way, it is stated, the difference between the internal and external pressures is always kept below the ratio between the degree to which the air is compressed and the atmospheric pressure. On the buoy ascending again, the water is forced out, the valve being held raised by a float 11 until the tube 6 is emptied. The valve may be fixed in position by a disk 17 and screw 18.
