Abstract

Starting. facilitating.-In an arrangement for priming pumps without the use of a foot valve, the pump a is provided at its suction side with a detachable chamber b with an inspection door c and containing a detachable strainer d. The chamber b is connected bv a valve e with aT-pipe f connected with the suction pipe g and by the pipes t. valve s and gauge column r with one part of an aspirator or ejector q. The other part of the ejector n is connected by a pipe and a valve p to a T-pipe l mounted on the delivery side of the pump. A valve k on the suction side of the pump leads to a vessel k. In operation, the valves e, j are closed and water is admitted through the valve m until it overflows by the valve p into the vessel k. When the water fills the vessel k up to the level v, the valve m is closed, the valve j opened, and the pump started. The pump now takes water from the vessel k and delivers it through the ejector q to the vessel k again. Valve s is now opened and air is withdrawn from the suction pipe g, causing water to rise in the pipe t into the gauge r. The valves p, s are then closed and the valve e opened, putting the pump into connexion with the pipe g. the valve then being closed and the valve m opened.
