Starting, facilitating.-In order to prime pumps, a priming chamber f is provided and is connected with the suction by a pipe g and a by-pass pipe h is fitted between the upper part of the chamber f and the delivery pipe l, its end h<3> being, formed or fitted so that the liquid delivered from the pump a acts inductively to draw air from the chamber f. The chamber f being full of water up to the level of the pipe g, when the pump is started, water is drawn from the chamber f and reduced pressure in the chamber f causes water to rise in the pipe g. Any air in the pipe is extracted from the chamber f by way of the pipe h. After the pump is stopped, water may leak away by the pipe g. but the chamber f remains filled. An automatic relief valve k may be fitted.
