Starting, facilitating.-A centrifugal pump provided with a reservoir in the suction, which always remains full of water so that the pump always remains primed, is also provided with a non-return valve in the suction or delivery. The pump a is provided with an upwardly-extending delivery pipe g and a reservoir c in the suction to maintain the pump primed, and a non-return valve b is provided. A flush-pipe h may be provided to clear sediment from the floor of the well e from which liquid is pumped. A screen may be interposed in the receptacle c to stop solid matter from entering the pump.
