Abstract

493,821. Centrifugal pumps. BRITISH METALLIC PACKINGS CO. (1933), Ltd., JONES, D. G., and RICHES, W. R. Feb. 23, 1938, No. 5766. [Class 110 (i)] A centrifugal pump 16 is primed by a pump 12 set in operation by the rise in the level of the main body of liquid to be pumped, which liquid rises in suction pipe 18 from sump 1 to prime pump 16. Float 3 engages an upper stop 4 on rod 5 to actuate a switch 7 in the circuit of the starter 10 of motor 11 driving pump 12. This pump extracts air from pump 16 through pipes 13, 15 and float switch 14 until priming liquid enters switch 14 to close the circut of the starter 44 for the motor 45 driving pump 16. The liquid in suction pipe 18 enters a diaphragm switch 48 to break the circuit of motor 11, while the circuit of motor 45 is broken, through switch 7, by the lower stop 64. The discharge pipe 20 has a reflux valve 19 and a sluice valve 46.
