Abstract

402,587. Centrifugal pumps. KNOLL, R., 27, Elsnerstrasse, Jõgerndorf, Czecho- Slovakia. Nov. 2, 1932, No. 30854. [Class 110 (i).] Apparatus for controlling a compressed-air waterreservoir is immersed in oil in a casing 10. The apparatus comprises an electric driving motor for the pump, a pressure responsive switch 33 for controlling the motor and a lightning protecting contact 1, 2. The reservoir is replenished with air and water by the pump 19 which draws in water through the suction port 22 and air from an injector 26, 27 to balance the axial thrust the upper impeller carries a cylindrical projection above which is a space 17. The pressure in the space lies between that of the discharge 29 and the suction 22 with which the space is connected by passages 14, 11, 15. The bearings 16, 23 are cooled by water passing through the passages which are such that the water does not rise above the level of the footstep bearing 12. The casing 10 is built within or at the side of the reservoir. To prevent an air lock in the pump, the discharge leaves from the top of the pump. In a variation a division wall is built in the casing between the motor and the switch, the latter only being immersed in oil. A stuffing gland is interposed between the pump and its motor.
