Abstract
782,533. Centrifugal pumps. BUNGARTZ, P. May 6, 1955 [May 6, 1954; Dec. 22, I954], No. 13212/55. Class 110 (1). In a pump having a vertical impeller spindle disposed within a tube through which the liquid is raised, driving means and a main impeller arranged above the liquid level, and an auxiliary impeller mounted on a lower part of the spindle for raising the level of the liquid in the tube, the spindle is hollow and is closed at the end to be immersed in the liquid, and a supporting rod extends in the hollow spindle and is carried in a bearing in a lower part of the spindle. In the pump shown, the main impeller 6 and the submersed auxiliary impeller 7 are carried by a hollow shaft 8 which at its upper end is journalled in a bearing 1 and near its lower end is provided with an insert 12 by which it is journalled on the end 13 of a fixed rod 10 which is carried by a flanged disc 11. A suction tube 4 is provided. Where a corrosive liquid such as hydrochloric acid is to be pumped, the main impeller and casing, which are above the liquid level, need only be provided with corrosion-resistant coatings on the side in contact with the liquid.
