Abstract
1,073,064. Centrifugal pumps. STOTHERT & PITT Ltd. May 13, 1966 [May 14, 1965], No.20590/65. Heading F1C. A centrifugal pump comprises a two-part casing, one part being in the form of a branch cover 10 incorporating the suction and discharge pipes 11, 12 and connected to, or as shown, integral with, the electric driving motor 13. The other casing part is a cover 14 detachably secured to the branch cover 10 by bolts 16. The pump impeller 22 operates within a pump body 15 detachably secured to the branch cover 10 by bolts (not shown) and comprising a volute casing 18 in communication with the discharge pipe 12, and an inlet cover 19 detachably secured to the volute casing by bolts 20 and having an inlet opening 23 in communication with the suction pipe 11. The cover 14 may have a transparent inspection cover 26. After removal of the cover 26 or the cover 14, followed by removal of the cover 19, the impeller 22 and a shaft seal 24 can be removed. After removal of the cover 14, the volute casing 18 can be removed without disturbing the pipes 11, 12. The support member 28 for the shaft seal 24 and a thrower element 25 can then be removed to give access to a motor bearing 29. The separate support member 28 may be replaced by a support member integral with the volute casing 18. The pump can be supported at the junction between the cover parts 10, 14, either at an opening in a floor or wall or through columns arranged on a base. Alternatively, it may be supported by the motor 13, provided for this purpose with a base plate or legs.
