351,207. Rotary engines and pumps. WEHLE, H., 40, Kõmpchen Strasse, Miilheim, Ruhr, Germany. May 29, 1930, No. 16632. [Class 110 (ii).] Fixed-abutment type ; movable-abutment type ; jarring; preventing injury by ; discharge and suction pipes and passages for pumps.-The invention is illustrated in connection with a rotary engine or pump of the rotary vane type in which a rotor 1 carries a number of cylindrical sleeve or annular vanes 3 which are rotated by their toothed flanges engaging a fixed toothed flange on the casing and so present an aperture 9 to permit their passage past abutments 5 which block the annular working chamber 8. As shown in the developed section, Fig. 2, the abutment 5 has lateral clearances 11, 12 with the aperture 9 at both sides of which fluid is enclosed and according to the present invention a byepass is provided connecting these clearances so that jamming by the trapped fluid is prevented. In the construction shown, the byepass is provided by making the aperture 9 of greater depth than the abutment 5. The working fluid is admitted at a port 15 giving access to the hollow interior of the rotor 1 and passes to inlet ports 6 adjacent the abutments ; outlet ports 7 at the other face of the abutments discharge to a common outlet. The invention is applicable to rotary engines and the like of the rotary abutment type.
