Abstract
336,001. Grote, E. R. July 9, 1929. Fluid-friction apparatus.-The inlet and outlet ports of a molecular pump are formed parallel to the axis of rotation of the rotating member. As shown in Fig. 1 the operating chamber is formed by two grooves C, C<1> in a casing b across each of which is formed a radial partition and which are connected in series by a cavity f. The grooves may also be connected in parallel. The inlet port e opens into the groove C and the outlet e<1> from the groove C<1>. As shown in Fig. 4 the rotating member comprises two discs a<3>, a<4> the peripheries a<5>, a<6> of which are flared to form a narrow slit. The gas enters through a port j, passes through holes i in the disc a<3> and enters a space g between the discs. Thence it passes through the slit and out through the port k.
