348,581. Solidifying carbon dioxide. FIEVET, H., 7, Avenue St. Maur, La Madeleine-lez-Lille, Nord, France. Feb. 13, 1930, No. 4917. [Class 8 (ii).] Carbonic acid snow is formed in a chamber 1 having an elastically mounted wall or cover 3 by the introduction of the compressed liquid through an orifice formed in a thin wall 13 and closed by a needle valve 15, the gas simultaneously produced passing out through a filter 17 and an orifice 32 leading e.g. to a pump or gas-holder. Annular grooves 28, 30 connected by radial grooves form passages for the escaping gas behind the filter, which rests on the ridges defining the grooves. The snow may be compacted by a plate 18 actuated by a handle 19 or a screw &c. The cover is secured by a hook 4 pivoted on the chamber and connected by a spring to the cover, and by a lever 6 containing an adjustable spring 21 ; alternatively, the cover may be resiliently secured to the chamber at several points.
