Gaseous mixtures.-A gas mixture for the synthesis of methyl alcohol contains 30 per cent carbon monoxide, 7 per cent carbon dioxide, and over 60 per cent hydrogen, and is obtained by washing away part of the carbon dioxide from the gas produced by the action of oxygen and water vapour on carbon.
