Abstract

294,396. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Sept. 19, 1927. Formates are prepared from cyclic alcohols by heating with carbon monoxide, or gases containing the same, under pressure in the presence of alcoholates. According to examples (1) cyclohexanol formate is obtained by heating cyclohexanol containing one per cent of sodium with carbon monoxide; (2) benzyl formate is prepared by heating benzyl alcohol containing a small quantity of potassium with a mixture of carbon monoxide, nitrogen and hydrogen.
