Liquid fuel.-Gases containing carbon oxides and hydrogen, produced by treating solid fuels in a producer with air and steam, and to which hydrocarbons such as methane and acetylene may be added, are treated at 80‹ C. and at about atmospheric pressure with a catalyst consisting chiefly of the sulphates of cerium and cobalt, the product being a mixture of about 90 per cent hydrocarbons and 10 per cent oxygen-containing compounds, chiefly ketones, from which by cooling a liquid fuel is obtained.
