Abstract

347,175. Force-feed lubricating. PIEROTTI, A., 217, William Street, Perth, Australia. Jan. 14, 1930, No. 1300. [Class 12 (iii).] In a two-stroke, sleeve-valve, internal-combustion engine, oil is pumped from a sump 48, which is disposed beneath the crank case 26 and in communication with the latter through a coiled pipe 50 which drains the crank case and prevents the entrance of oil thereto from the sump, through a pipe 52 by a geared-wheel pump 53, 54 housed in an auxiliary casing 55. The pump is driven by a shaft 58 geared to the main shaft. Oil is supplied to a chamber 56 from which it passes to the main bearings by pipes 63, to the connecting-rod by crank-shaft passages 64, and by pipes to the valve and valve gear, and to the driving gears of the shaft 58 and the fan 24. A spring-pressed ball prevents the return of oil from the chamber 56 to the crank case. Excess oil is returned to the crank case by a screw thread 75 on the shaft 58 and a passage 76.
