Abstract

156,474. Wolseley Motors, Ltd., Reeve, E., and Luyks, E. S. July 24, 1919. Force-feed lubricating for a single or twin cylinder internal-combustion engine having halfspeed shafts at right-angles to the plane containing the axes of the cylinders. An oil pump, consisting of a plunger q working in an oscillating disc t, is operated by a worm p on one of the half-speed shafts gearing with a wheel on a vertical shaft n which carries a crank-pin m engaging the plunger. The half-speed shafts, not shown in Figs. 2 and 3, are mounted on hollow studs 8, 12. The pump receives oil from a tank by a pipe v and delivers it through passages 6, 7 to the stud 8, whence it passes by a passage 11 to the stud 12. Holes 9, 13 lead to the bearing- surfaces of the studs and a branch pipe 15 conveys oil to the front cylinder. The oil drains into the bottom of the valve-gear casing and the crankshaft bearings are lubricated by splash through holes 16, 17. Surplus oil overflows into the crank case.
