Abstract

720.052. Lubricating. MEYER, R. June 19, 1952, No. 15505/52. Class 12 (3). A lubricating arrangement, especially for the crankshafts of two-stroke motor cycle engines comprises at least one oil collecting member enclosed by a housing outside the crankshaft space and receiving oil thrown up or splashed by transmission elements characterized in that the oil collecting member is connected through at least one passage with at least one main bearing of the crankshaft. As seen in Fig. 1, the gear wheels 9, 10, of the change speed gear throw up oil to a channel 4 formed on the outer wall of the crankshaft space 2. Thence oil drains by a bore or pipeway 5 to a crankshaft bearing 6. Oil return passages 7 are provided so that a reserve of oil 8 is always left in the bearing. This oil reservoir is preferably sealed from the main crankshaft space by sealing members. The housing enclosing the oil collecting member 4 may enclose a transmission member from the engine to the change speed gear as well, or such a transmission member only. Oil may also be collected by means of a chain dipping into an oil bath driven by the transmission member.
