Abstract

1386951 Driving gear; casings BRITISH LEYLAND (AUSTIN-MORRIS) Ltd 13 April 1972 [16 Jan 1971] 2233/71 Heading F1B In an I. C. engine and integral gear-box, having a combined cylinder block, crank-case and gearbox casing formed from a one-piece casting, the cylinders are inclined relative to a plane common to the crank-shaft and gear-box input shaft axes 14, 17, Fig. 1, the lower face of the one piece casting extends below the crank-shaft centre line and the bearing caps 27 for the gear-box input and output shafts are mounted on the lower face of the one piece casting. The casing encloses a change speed mechanism 22, Fig. 2 and a differential 21. In a modification the cylinder bores are inclined relative to a plane common to the axes of the gear-box input and output shafts.
