Class 7(2) [Also in Group XXXI] An internal combustion engine with vertical cylinders is arranged with its crank shaft 10, Figs. 1, 2 transverse to the vehicle and driving the crown wheel 30 of the differential gear through a change speed gear having axially aligned input and output shafts 13, 21 arranged within the engine crankcase 18 to one side of and parallel with the crankshaft 10. The change speed gear input shaft 13 is driven from the crankshaft 10 through a clutch 11 and gears 12 and is arranged on one side of the centre line of the engine, while the associated lay-shaft 14 is disposed on the opposite side. The output shaft 21 drives the crown wheel 30 through a gear 29. The differential crown wheel casing 34 is mounted in bearings 35 in a lateral extension 36 of the crankcase 18.
