578,483. Driving gear. BACON, L. G. Nov. 27, 1944, No. 19996/43. [Class 7 (ii)] In an engine in which an auxiliary shaft 10 is disposed parallel and adjacent to the crankshaft 12 which draws it through a gear train 23 and the auxiliary shaft carries elements 18 of a change speed gear, clutches 22, 30 are provided, one on each shaft to permit a differential 24 or other driven element to be driven from the crankshaft 12 directly or through the auxiliary shaft 10. The gear train 23 may be arranged on the crankshaft between the cylinders of the engine.
