Abstract

[Also in Division F1] A motor vehicle power unit is disposed adjacent to the driven wheels and is balanced with respect to the longitudinal vertical centreplane of the vehicle and comprises a clutch, gearing and one or more engines whose shafts are perpendicular or at another angle to the longitudinal vertical centre plane. In Fig. 1, a pair of engines 1, 2 drive the wheels 9 through a clutch 10, gear-box 5, differential gear 6 and change-speed gear 7 while in Fig. 2, a single engine drives through a gear-box 5, change speed gear 11, clutch 10 and differential gear 6. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement for four engines and in Fig. 4 a pair of rotary engines (Wankel) 1<SP>11</SP>, 2<SP>11</SP> are obliquely disposed.
