Abstract
5394. Daimler-Motoren-Ges. April 28, 1914, [Convention date]. Baths and reservoirs.- The cam shaft of an internal-combustion engine for motor - vehicles or flying - machines is enclosed in an oil bath, which is provided with an overflow passage leading to the crank case or sump. Oil is forced by a pump through a pipe m to the interior of the cam shaft g and passes out through openings q, r, to the bearings and cams. The oil collects in a casing p to provide additional lubrication of the cams, and overflows through passages u, v in the end bearing o, returning to the crank case through a funnel t and a hollow vertical shaft d by which the cam shaft is driven. Passages in the bearings afford communication between the compartments of the casing p.
